| FLOODING RAINS DELAYS SEASON START |
| |
Due to the intense rainfall that we all experienced in the early spring, the first application of the season started a week later than normal. We worked very hard throughout this spring to eventually lead us to a normal completion date, thus assuring that all of our customers were treated in a timely manner.
As a result of the excessive rainfall, soils were far more deeply irrigated and in some cases this lead to heavy weed activity, as would be expected as temperatures increased. This is one of the reasons that we always offer FREE SERVICE CALLS to leave an open line of communication with our customers and tend to all of your sudden needs regarding your lawn.
One advantage from this delay was that our pre-emergent crabgrass product also tends to crabgrass in a post emergent state. Therefore, in some delayed cases where crabgrass may have begun to emerge in hot spot areas, like along driveways and walkways. Our application was able to control these situations as well.

| FLEA AND TICK CONTROL |

Flea and Tick applications have already begun, as warmer temperatures slowly prevail. Insects are ready to deposit eggs throughout the region. The time to protect your surroundings from Flea and Tick infestations is now.
If you have not ordered a Flea and Tick application in the past, it is never too late to start. Simply call our office for a free price quote and scheduling of the service.
Flea and Tick applications are applied three times throughout the season to provide year round protection from major infestations.

Core aeration is also scheduled to begin soon, if you are interested in having this process performed on your lawn, contact our office for a price quote and scheduling.
Core aeration is a mechanical process that extracts small cores from the topsoil approximately a half-inch in diameter and 1-3 inches in depth. Core aeration will enhance turf growth, increase irrigation to the root zone and control or minimize disease activity. The cores left behind will dry and slowly disappear after several mowings.
Seed quotes for Fall Seeding can also be given for those worn or damaged spots on your lawn.

| RED THREAD DISEASE ALERT |
| |
Due to extremely wet conditions combined with warming temperatures, many lawns have been overrun with red thread disease. This disease, like most others, will leave a brownish tint to the lawn. Upon closer examination, you will notice a reddish tint to the affected areas. And at even a closer look you may notice red threadlike material coming from the top of the turf blade. In any of these cases it is important to note that this disease, unlike many others, is typically a non-damaging disease to the turf. At worst case the disease is simply an aesthetic nuisance.
In most cases this disease can be cured by either an additional application of fertilizer or, if scheduled, your next regular fertilizer application. The additional nitrogen will grow the disease right out of the lawn. If the disease becomes persistent, then the likelihood of a turf fungicide may be necessary to fully control the disease.
In either case you should avoid any evening watering, and simply suspend watering as long as this wet climate continues. Also raise your mowing height to at least 3", this will maintain better color on the lawn and avoid a total overrun of the disease. Also it is best if you can simply wipe the debris off of your mower blade after each mowing or after mowing an infected area, but before entering an uninffected area, such as going from front yard to backyard. This will reduce the risk of spreading the disease to other areas of the lawn.

The second Flea and Tick Control application is scheduled to begin by early July. This application will further enhance the control of flea and tick populations on your property. A final third application will be applied by mid October which is designed to control the over wintering egg populations and assure full control into the early spring of next season prior to your first Flea and Tick application which will begin in March. This new program is a comprehensive control program which is designed to guarantee better control throughout the entire calendar year.
